Planning your career is just like planning your life. It cannot be rushed. When so many changes are taking place around you, you need to plan your future, be it from deciding on what to do next to choosing a career. In future, you need to be happy, contented, satisfied and be able to contribute in your chosen vocation. But how can you plan your career if you do not know how to do it? 


Career Planning is a simple skill. An ordinary person changes career 3 – 5 time in his / her lifetime. If you learn these skills, you can use them whenever you want to. There are 4 basic steps in the Career Planning Process.

What Next?




Every year some leave school knowing what they intend to do next. Some will leave school thinking that they will do what their peers are intending to do. Some will follow their parents, relatives and teachers. However there will be some who would not know what to do. Whether you know what to do or do not know what to do, there are many options available to you.

Career Planning is life planning. The career you choose today will decide the life that you will lead tomorrow.
 
Whatever you do, do not panic. Do not be disappointed or give-up studying. Learning never ends. Take up a training program or a skill if your results are not satisfying. If your results are average, go for a Diploma program. After obtaining your Diploma, you can still study if you want to. Lastly, if your results are good, obtain the highest qualification that is available to you.

KEBERKATAN DAN KEREDHAAN ALLAH YANG DICARI DALAM PEKERJAAN KITA SEHARIAN

Sebagai seorang muslim, kita telah digesa untuk melakukan kerja dan mencari kelebihan kurniaan Allah s.w.t dimuka bumi ini dengan bersungguh-sungguh bagi menampung segala keperluan hidup. Kita ditegah untuk mengharapkan datangnya rezeki tanpa usaha dan ikhtiar dan hanya semata-mata menyerahkan urusan rezeki atas kurniaan Allah s.w.t, sesungguhnya itu adalah bertentang dengan konsep Ahlul sunnah waljamaah, iaitu perlu ada usaha dan ikhtiar dalam mendapat sesuatu kurniaan Allah s.w.t. Gesaan untuk bekerja ini juga telah dijelaskan dalam banyak ayat Allah s.w.t antaranya :



1. "Dan sesungguhnya kami telah menetapkan kamu (dan memberi kuasa) di bumi, dan kami jadikan untuk kamu padanya (berbagai jalan) penghidupan (supaya kamu bersyukur,tetapi) amatlah sedikit kamu bersyukur".(Al-A'raaf ayat 10)


2. "Dan kami telah menjadikan siang (dengan cahaya terangnya)masa untuk mencari rezeki". (Al-Anbiyaa' ayat 11)




Perkara penting dalam memahami konsep pekerjaan ialah sesuatu kerja yang dilakukan itu termasuk dalam salah satu cabang ibadat yang jika dilakukan mengikut cara dan bertepatan dengan kehendak syariat, maka ia dinilai sebagai ibadat. Hasil pendapatannya juga akan menjadi halal dan akan diberi ganjaran oleh Allah s.w.t. Sebaliknya, jika berlaku perkara yang berlawanan, maka ia tergolong daripada kerja-kerja yang dilarang dan sudah pasti pendapatannya juga akan menjadi haram atau termasuk dalam kategori subahat (kesamaran/keraguan).


Matlamat sesuatu kerja yang Islam gariskan itu adalah jelas iaitu setiap kerja yang kita lakukan sebenarnya adalah beribadat kepada Allah s.w.t . Apabila kita menjadikan sedemikian, sudah pasti kerja yang kita lakukan akan cemerlang dan terpelihara daripada perbuatan yang tidak diredhai Allah s.w.t. Ini termasuklah perbuatan menyeleweng,menipu,menyalah guna kuasa,rasuah dan seumpamanya yang menjadi punca kepada kerja yang kita laksanakan tidak mendatangkan hasil yang cemerlang dan sudah pasti tiada keberkatan dalam kerja tersebut. Ini telah dijelaskan dalam sebuah hadis nabi s.a.w yang diriwayatkan oleh saidatina aisyah r.a :
"Sesungguhnya Allah s.w.t menyukai seseorang yang melakukan kerja dengan bersungguh-sungguh dan cemerlang".


Hakikat kerja yang kita lakukan adalah berkaitan dengan pendapatan atau gaji. Dari pendapatan inilah kita gunakan untuk menyara ahli keluarga dan menampung segala kuasa kehidupan yang lain. Islam amat menitikberatkan soal pendapatan. Ini kerana ia melibatkan soal makanan harian kita. Mahukah kita jika kehidupan kita sentiasa dilingkari dengan pendapatan yang haram atau subahat?. Pastinya kita tidak mahu. Rasulullah s.a.w telah mengingatkan kita berkenaan hasil yang kita perolehi dengan sabdanya :


"Setiap daging yang tumbuh dari bahan makanan yang haram maka api nerakalah yang lebih layak baginya".Riwayat At-Tarmizi


Peringatan ini sewajarnya menjadikan kita lebih berwaspada, semoga amaran ini menjadi pegangan kepada setiap orang Islam. Kita perlu menyedari betapa Islam amat menjaga soal pendapatan dan hasil kerja yang kita lakukan setiap hari.


Dewasa ini, ramai di kalangan kita memilih kerjaya dengan menceburkan diri dalam bidang perniagaan, maka berbagai bentuk perniagaan yang dijalankan, termasuklah perniagaan melalui internet dan sebagainya.


Di antara perkara asas untuk menjadikan kerja yang kita lakukan dinilai sebagai ibadat dengan menjana pendapatan yang halal, berkat dan bertepatan dengan kehendak syarak, ianya dijelaskan seperti butiran berikut :


Pertama : Niat untuk melakukan kerja itu mestilah betul.


Bila kita ingin memulakan sesuatu perniagaan, persoalan yang perlu ditimbulkan, apakah niat kita apabila menceburkan diri dalam perniagaan tersebut?. Adakah kerana cita-cita yang tinggi untuk menjadi kaya dan beriman kepada Allah atau sebaliknya?.Adakah kita berniaga semata-mata untuk menyayangi rakan kita yang telah mencapai kejayaan dan hidup mewah?. Adakah kita berniaga lantaran kerana terpengaruh dengan ajakan rakan-rakan walau pun tanpa ilmu perniagaan dan kemahiran dalam bidang tersebut?. Sebenarnya banyak persoalan niat ini yang boleh dipersoalkan. Maka sebagai orang yang ingin memulakan perniagaan,perlu bertanya apakah tujuan ia berniaga?. Rasulullah s.a.w telah mengingatkan umatnya dengan bersabda :


"Sesungguhnya segala amal yang dilakukan berdasarkan kepada niat dan sesungguhnya sesuatu amalan itu akan diterima oleh Allah s.w.t berdasarkan kepada apa yang diniatkan".


Kedua : Kerjaya yang diceburi mestilah diredhai oleh Allah s.w.t mengikut hukum syarak.


Perkara yang menjadi sumber pendapatan kita mestilah diredhai Allah s.w.t dan dibenarkan syarak. Sudah semestinya perkara yang melibatkan unsur perjudian, barang yang memabukkan,penyeludupan dan perkara-perkara yang bertentangan dengan hukum adalah tidak diredhai Allah dan haram di sisi syarak. Oleh yang demikian perkara tersebut perlu dielakkan dan dijauhi.


Ketiga : Pelaksanaan kerja tersebut mestilah betul.




Syarat ini adalah melibatkan cara kerja yang kita buat. Walaupun kerja atau perniagaan yang kita ceburi itu adalah yang halal dan sah, namun jika pelaksanaannya tidak betul, sudah pasti hasilnya tidak sah seperti adanya unsur-unsur penipuan dalam pengurusan,unsur riba', perjudian dan seumpamanya. Semua perkara ini termasuk dalam erti kata pelaksanaan yang tidak betul dan tidak telus.




Perkara ke-empat : Tidak meninggalkan perkara asas yang diterima syariat dalam melakukan sesuatu pekerjaan.




Kerja yang berkat dan sempurna ialah kerja yang sentiasa patuh dengan peraturan dan melaksanakan perintah Allah s.w.t. Setiap pekerjaan yang dilakukan janganlah mengabaikan ibadat asas seperti solat, jika solat diabaikan, maka dengan mudah seseorang itu memandang remeh tentang hak-hak pengeluaran zakat dan pembiayaan sedekah kepada yang sepatutnya, hilangnya maruah dan harga diri dalam soal menjaga aurat,berbagai bentuk pendustaan lagi dan seumpamanya sehingga menjadikan kerja tersebut tiada keberkatan. Seseorang yang melakukan kerja, tetapi meninggalkan solat tidaklah dianggap kerjanya diterima sebagai ibadat. Sebaliknya orang yang bekerja dan berniaga mengikut syariat dengan melakukan kelima-lima syarat tersebut dianggap telah bertakwa, beribadat dan mengabadikan diri kepada Allah s.w.t. Rasulullah s.a.w berpesan dengan sabdanya :



"Sebaik-baik pekerjaan itu ialah usaha seseorang pekerja apabila ia berbuat dengan sebaik-baiknya". Riwayat Ahmad




Sifat jujur dan ikhlas perlu diutamakan dalam melaksanakan tugas sebagai pekerja. Kejujuran dan keikhlasan ialah membuat sesuatu kebaikan semata-mata kerana kebaikan itu sendiri dan tidak mengharapkan balasan selain keredaan Allah s.w.t. Perlu diingat bahawa setiap tindakan kita, pasti tidak lari daripada pengawasan Allah s.w.t.




"Dan katakanlah (wahai muhammad): "beramallah kamu akan segala yang diperintahkan, maka Allah s.w.t dan rasulnya serta orang-orang yang beriman akan melihat apa yang kamu kerjakan, dan kamu akan dikembalikan kepada (Allah s.w.t) yang mengetahui perkara-perkara yang ghaib dan nyata. Kemudian ia menerangkan kepada kamu apa yang kamu telah kerjakan".At-Taubat ayat 105

Curriculum Vitae/Resume - Writing Tips - WORKING WITH SHELL

You will need to upload your CV when you complete an application form, your CV forms an important part of your application and will be reviewed when we consider your suitability for Shell.  It might be useful to refer back to our criteria of Capacity, Achievement & Relationship and ensure that you demonstrate evidence for these in your CV.


Here are some CV writing tips, which you may find useful.



A CV is a record of your personal, education and work details. It should be as up to date as possible.  The layout of your CV is flexible, however ideally it should be no more than two pages long.  The use of headings such as Education, Career History can help to clarify sections. Don't use fancy layouts as these can detract from the contents of your CV.  Don't make general statements about your qualities. Make sure you can support your statements with evidence. Try to link your skills and experience to the requirements of the job you are applying for.


A good CV will include:

 

Personal Details


Keep this section brief - your full name, address, email address and phone number are important.

 

Education Details

Usually stated in reverse chronological order, with your most recent experiences first. Include details of the name of the institutions, the dates you attended and the qualifications you obtained / will obtain.

Think about the relevance of the information you detail. You may want to include a list of relevant modules, information about projects and dissertations undertaken, average grades and/or skills developed.

 

Career History / Professional Experience

All experiences count, whether paid, voluntary or shadowing. These are usually stated in reverse chronological order with dates to illustrate how long you were there. Focus on your responsibilities and achievements in the role and remember to highlight where skills were used or developed.

 

 Positions of responsibility/achievements/interests

These are all relevant sections to include and can be used to demonstrate that you are motivated to pursue other activities, have an interest in a relevant career and take the initiative to develop your involvements and skills. Try to focus upon recent achievements and what your contributions were, skills developed and outcomes.

Please remember that this is a platform for you to demonstrate your key attributes and qualities, recognise your own achievements and the key challenges you have overcome.   This is your opportunity to demonstrate this and potentially could be your first step through the selection process.

Application Process With SHELL

You can apply using Shell's online application system. After creating your profile, you will be required to complete three pre-registration questions to assess eligibility for Student opportunities. The next step is to select the opportunity you wish to apply for, and then complete the application form, attaching your CV/resume.


Once you have submitted the application form and CV/resume there will be a short questionnaire to complete.

When Shell has received your completed form and questionnaire, your application will then be available for consideration.


We'll confirm that we have received your details within 48 hours of submission.

Please note that Shell (nor any of the organisations that recruit on our behalf) never ask for any money or payments from applicants, at any point in the recruitment process. Interview


We'll let you know whether you'll be invited to the interview stage approximately two weeks after receiving your completed application.

The interview will take place either face-to-face or over the telephone. We'll be assessing how you perform against the criteria listed above. At the end of the interview, you'll have the chance to ask us some questions of your own - about the role, the culture, work environment or any other area of interest to you.

This is an opportunity for you to tell us more about your achievements, the challenges you've faced and how you've demonstrated the qualities we're looking for.

 

 

The Shell Recruitment Day

If you're successful at your interview, we'll let you know if you'll be invited to our Shell Recruitment Day (SRD) within three weeks.

This is our chance to see you in action in a variety of different work scenarios. We'll be assessing how well you demonstrate the key competencies we're looking for.

You'll be joined on the SRD by up to six other candidates and four assessors who'll be observing individual performances, not looking for winners and losers.

The day will last for eight hours, including time for lunch, refreshment breaks and preparation, and you'll undertake three key exercises: a Case Study; a Group Discussion and a Business Scenario Interview, Technical Presentation or Technical Interview.

We'll endeavour to notify you of the outcome of the SRD a few days after the event, although this can take longer in some markets.
Please note that all the timings given above are average times for each step in the process. However during periods of high applications, each step can also take longer.

 

 

Assessed Internship/Gourami


If we think you’re the right match for us, we’ll make you an offer for an internship/Gourami or Personal Development Award and begin to finalise the arrangements with you.

    10 Soft Skills for Job Hunters

    Each company looks for a different mix of skills and experience depending on the business it's in. Yet it's no longer enough to be a functional expert. To complement these unique core competencies, there are certain "soft skills" every company looks for in a potential hire.

    What is An Interior Designer?

    Interior designers are creative, imaginative and artistic. They also need to be disciplined, organized and skilled business people. Combining knowledge with aesthetic vision, interior designers work with clients and other design professionals to develop design solutions that are safe, functional, attractive and meet the needs of the people using the space.



    As is the case with any career, the practice of interior design can be rewarding and fulfilling if hard work prevails. Excelling at interior design requires energy, technical proficiency, vision and dedication.

    As members of a service profession, interior designers’ fortunes depend on their ability to satisfy clients. Thus, they must understand artistic and technical requirements of a project, interpersonal communication, and management strategies.

    • Artistic and Technical Requirements
      Interior designers must know how to plan a space and how to present that plan visually so that it can be communicated to the client. Interior designers must also know about the materials and products that will be used to create and furnish the space, and how texture, color, lighting and other factors combine and interact to make a space. In addition, interior designers must understand the structural requirements of their plans, the health and safety issues, building codes, and many other technical aspects.
    • Interpersonal Communications
      Interior designers must be comfortable meeting and dealing with many kinds of people. They must communicate clearly and effectively, as well as be attentive listeners. Because they often must work with architects, contractors and other service providers, interior designers need to be both good team leaders and good team players. They must be willing to negotiate and mediate when necessary to solve problems.
    • Management Strategies
      Interior designers must have excellent time and project management abilities since they frequently work on more than one project at a time under demanding deadlines. Interior designers must understand business planning, and they need to know how to sell their ideas to clients, create informative and persuasive proposals and presentations, and maintain good client relationships. 

    Work As Quantity Surveyor

    Just What does a Quantity Surveyor do?

    NZIQS Rules state that a "Quantity Surveyor" means a person educated, trained and qualified, and who is particularly and regularly engaged, for the purpose of livelihood, in the following work:
    1. The preparation of Bills and/or Schedules of Quantities of materials, labour and services required in the construction and equipment of building, or engineering works, and;

    2. The preparation and valuation of progress and final payments in connection with any contract or sub-contract, and;

    3. The appraisal of the value of proposed constructions or other structures already erected, and;

    4. The preparation of specifications when required so to do, and;

    5. Acting as arbitrator in cases of dispute in connection with building, or engineering work, when required so to do, and;

    6. To advise from time to time on cost management, or value management.

    7. To carry out such other duties as may properly be those of a Quantity Surveyor.









    So just what does a Quantity Surveyor do and how do you become one? Basically, the Quantity Surveyor is the person responsible for figuring out just what a building is going to cost and in some cases for making sure that construction costs and production are managed as efficiently as possible. In some of today's projects there may be many millions of dollars involved. 


    A Quantity Surveyor can identify and collate the costs involved in order to develop an overall budget for any project. They can then undertake cost planning which aims to help all members of the design team arrive at practical solutions and stay within the project budget. It is the final detailed estimate prepared by the Quantity Surveyors, in consultation with a project architect, which forms a basis on which subsequent tenders can be evaluated. Schedules of quantities translate the drawing, plans and specifications produced by the design team to enable each contractor to calculate tender prices fairly, on exactly the same basis as the competitors.


    Once tenders have been accepted, the Quantity Surveyor can provide cash flow data to enable a client to programme his resources adequately to meet contract commitments. In other words, the Quantity Surveyor decides how much of a job should be paid for at any one time. With interest rates the way they are, no one wants to hand over money before it is due. 


    In most construction contracts, the contractor is paid monthly and the Quantity Surveyor can value the work carried out each month submitting a recommendation for certified payment. 

    The Quantity Surveyor can also be called on to assess cost effects when changes occur and agree on variation with contractors. 

    Following completion of a contract, the Quantity Surveyor prepares a statement of final account, summarising the cost charges that have occurred and arriving at a final contract sum.
