PIDM UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
 
 
The objectives of the programme are to:

 i.  provide and support deserving Malaysian students who have achieved excellent academic results and wish to further their education and be successful in life; and

  ii.  attract students who wish to enroll in undergraduate programmes relevant to the financial services industry.

SCOPE OF SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
The scope of the Scholarship Programme includes:
  • Induction Programme
    An induction programme will be provided to all recipients of PIDM's Scholarship Award. This is to ensure the recipients understand the mandate, vision, mission and values of PIDM.
     
  • Mentoring and Coaching Each recipient will be assigned a "mentor" from the PIDM Executive Management Committee (EMC) members. The mentor will provide mentoring and coaching as required. This is to ensure that the recipients have the necessary support and are able to leverage on the experience of our management team.
     
  • Internship Programme
    As part of the strategic design of the programme, graduates will be offered a paid six-month internship programme at PIDM.
BASIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ACCEPTANCE
 
 
The scholarship will be offered on a yearly basis to a maximum of five successful applicants, to undertake a maximum of 4-year undergraduate studies locally.

This notice of offer for the scholarship is open for applications from all Malaysian students in need of funding commencing July 2011.

PRE-REQUISITES AND CONDITION

 
The list of the pre-requisites includes:
                                                                                                                                           
1. A requirement to provide information on income for the applicant and/or parent(s);
2. To submit a written essay in English of approximately 1,000 words on your chosen field of study and your aspirations in contributing to the financial services landscape and the country in general.
3. The offer of scholarship will be subject to acceptance of the terms and conditions of a scholarship agreement with PIDM.
4. There will be no bond to this scholarship and the recipients are not required to repay the amount of the scholarship awarded.
5. Recipients of the scholarship awards will be required to fulfil conditions as set out in the scholarship agreement including, but not limited to, maintaining a minimum 'Cumulative Grade Point Average' (CGPA) of 3.00 or achieve a minimum of 'Second Class Upper' in the final examinations.

ELIGIBILITY
  To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must:
                                                                                                                                                                                                                               
1. be a Malaysian citizen;
2. possess good academic results in SPM/STPM or equivalent with credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English;
3. not exceed 25 years of age (as at 1 January 2011);
4. be a full-time student;
5. have gained admission into a particular course as listed below, which has been approved and accredited by 'Lembaga Akreditasi Negara' (LAN) in a public or private college and/or university in Malaysia as approved by PIDM;
6. require funding to undertake continuous studies;
7. currently not be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation; and
8. not have been terminated from or ceased to be in receipt of any other scholarship, financial aid or award from any institution, organisation or foundation, due to disciplinary action against the applicant.
 
SELECTION PROCESS
Applicants will be shortlisted and will be invited to attend an interview.
The candidates will be assessed based on the following:
                                                                                                                                           
1. academic achievements;
2. extracurricular achievements;
3. communication skills;
4. maturity and potential leadership qualities;
5. access to financial support.

The selection process will involve the following, with percentage weights as indicated:
                                                                                   
1. Interview (50%)
2. Essay writing (20%)
3. Customised online assessment, which will predict preferences and specific behavioural traits (30%)
 
DETAILS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
 
The terms of the scholarship will cover the following:
                                                                                   
1. Course fees of up to a RM10,000 per year or the actual cost, whichever is lower
2. Allowance for learning aids including books, computer, stationeries, and other material of RM2,000 per semester or RM4,000 per year
3. Monthly allowance of RM500 per month up to a maximum of RM6,000 per year
In summary, the programme will cover the above fees and allowance up to a maximum of RM20,000 per person per annum.
During the period of internship with PIDM, each recipient will receive a monthly allowance of RM1,000 for a six-month period.


CONDITIONS OF CONTINUING SPONSORSHIP
 
PIDM may discontinue the scholarship or any part of the scholarship, at any time should the recipient of the scholarship:
                                                                                                               
1. be unable to continue his or her studies, for whatever reason;
2. fail to achieve a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 in any semester or CGPA of 3.00;
3. fail to maintain conduct which is consistent with the rules and regulations specified by the college or university and is placed on probation; or
4. is in breach of any of the terms and conditions of the PIDM scholarship agreement.
